The girl stared at the ground while she walked, smiling to herself with her index finger poised at her lip. She looks up, sees me approaching and abruptly shoves her hands into the pockets of her pea coat; her toothy smile becoming a straight line and her face a blank slate. Moments later, a boy turns the corner. He is talking quietly to himself, a puzzled expression fixed to his brow. He too noticed my presence and becomes a blank slate. I liked them better before they saw me!
